GBIF reports a coordinate-bearing occurrence against a country, month or year facet after excluded record types are removed.
The site totals facets, finds each monthly peak, and counts months reaching at least 10% of that peak.
Resident, seasonal, vagrant and historical labels summarise the record pattern. They are not formal range or conservation assessments.
The public counts derive from GBIF occurrence facets. The build keeps coordinate-bearing records from an explicit allow-list and excludes fossils and living/captive specimens. The pooled aggregate is published under the most restrictive contributing licence, CC BY-NC 4.0.
Exact observation coordinates remain private because the held extract does not contain every uncertainty, withholding, generalisation and sensitivity field needed for safe publication. Read the full location and licensing gate.
The Worker checks the build weekly. A full occurrence refresh is normally due only after the last completed cycle
is at least 28 days old; each rebuilt entity records its own generation date. Method changes are versioned in source
control and the current release SHA is returned in the x-release-sha response header.
